Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — The Pittsburgh Steelers are creating a stir across the entire league.
According to Adam Schefter, the team led by Mike McCarthy is aggressively pursuing a bold trade to bring in a talented quarterback from the New Orleans Saints.
This is being viewed as one of the smartest “raiding” moves of the 2026 offseason.
Spencer Rattler has officially become the top target in Pittsburgh’s plan to strengthen its quarterback room.
The former Oklahoma and South Carolina star has drawn strong interest from the Steelers thanks to his starting experience and significant remaining upside at just 25 years old.
Rattler possesses an impressive résumé before entering the NFL. He was once named Senior Bowl MVP and ranks among the quarterbacks with the most productive statistical profiles of his generation.
Throughout his college and NFL career to date, Rattler has accumulated 13,710 passing yards and 89 touchdowns. Specifically, he threw for 10,807 yards and 77 touchdowns at the collegiate level before adding 2,903 yards and 12 touchdowns across 14 NFL starts.
This move demonstrates Pittsburgh’s desire to strengthen its quarterback depth while maintaining long term flexibility at the position.
With strong relationships around the league and an aggressive front office, the Steelers are considered one of the teams most capable of completing a deal if the Saints decide to move Rattler.
Selected by New Orleans in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Rattler quickly proved he belonged at the professional level by earning 14 starts during his first two NFL seasons.
Although the Steelers continue building for the future, Rattler is viewed internally as a quarterback with legitimate starter potential under the right coaching staff and offensive system.
Team officials reportedly believe his mobility, arm strength, improvisational ability, and confidence under pressure make him an intriguing fit for Pittsburgh’s offensive philosophy.
If completed, this could become one of the most valuable low risk, high reward acquisitions of the entire offseason.
Steelers Nation has already begun buzzing about the possibility of adding a young quarterback with real NFL starting experience.
Rattler would immediately provide additional competition and depth while giving Pittsburgh another developmental option for the future.
The pursuit also serves as further evidence of the Steelers’ determination to strengthen every area of the roster as they continue chasing championship contention.
While trade details have not been officially announced, multiple reports suggest Pittsburgh could be willing to offer a conditional mid round draft pick in exchange for the former Senior Bowl MVP.
The potential trade is already drawing significant attention from league executives, media outlets, and rival organizations.
If a deal is ultimately completed, Spencer Rattler could receive an opportunity to completely rewrite the next chapter of his NFL career in one of football’s most respected organizations.
