🚨BREAKING: As the Kansas City Chiefs’ 2026 offseason program shifts into high gear, rookie defensive back Jadon Canady is turning heads and generating intense excitement. The fourth-round pick out of Oregon has adapted rapidly to Steve Spagnuolo’s complex defensive architecture, prompting glowing organizational feedback and a major stylistic comparison to a former Chiefs lockdown cornerback. 👇

As the Kansas City Chiefs’ 2026 offseason program has continued, it has been impossible not to be impressed with rookie corner Jadon Canady. The Oregon alum has stepped in and very quickly flashed an ability that has KC fans questioning just what the defender’s ceiling might be. This has led to comparisons to the recently traded Trent McDuffie, with Canady himself adding fuel to this comparison with the comment coming via KC Sports Network.

Chiefs sign Jadon Canady as their secondary plan starts to take shape

“”Just seeing over the past four years what it’s done for this team, seeing how great of a player he [Trent McDuffie] was here… I watch his film a lot, and I’m the same height and weight as him, so I model my game around him.””

Canady’s earning this comparison makes sense considering both corners are undersized, and both are utilized in the slot. There is also the fact that the rookie can be used as a blitzing option and shows a tendency to attack the football both in the pass and run, playing far larger than his frame suggests. This explains the comparison and has fans hoping for similar results from the overlooked rookie.

The Chiefs have a great track record of developing defensive backs selected in the later rounds of the draft. Nohl Williams, L’Jarius Sneed, and Jaylen Watson are all pieces that teams passed on multiple times and allowed the Chiefs to find for Steve Spagnuolo’s unit that would eventually turn into starting options.

Chiefs can’t help but embrace comparison of Trent McDuffie and rookie corner

Williams is a current example as a mid-round pick a season ago and fought his way into the starting lineup, building enough trust to be a current starting option. For Canady, this is the path the rookie is hoping to emulate while fashioning his game after McDuffie, offering the same level of intensity that the Los Angeles Rams will now enjoy from the former Chiefs corner.

Kansas City fans are taking notice of the potential bargain and what it could mean for the franchise moving forward. If Canady is able to take the rookie leap, the Chiefs could have an incredibly young and promising starting trio of Canady, Williams, and first-round selection Mansoor Delane. This is unquestionably an exciting trio and will lead to fans embracing the McDuffie comparison in hopes of the road ahead.

For Canady, the defensive back has his work cut out for him with veteran corners Kristian Fulton and Kader Kohou having the advantage of experience and Fulton having spent a full year in Spagnuolo’s system. Still, there is no denying the excitement and the hope that the comparison to McDuffie will prove to be a sign of things to come for the overlooked rookie.
