Chiefs Land Former $63 Million, 1,000-Yard WR Star After Patriots Shockingly Cut Ties..DT

Kansas City, Missouri — The Kansas City Chiefs have made another aggressive offseason move, adding a veteran receiving weapon to support Patrick Mahomes’ championship push.

The deal comes after the New England Patriots shockingly moved on from a former $63 million wide receiver who produced another 1,000-yard season.

For Kansas City, the move immediately adds experience, playoff toughness, and proven route running to an offense searching for one final postseason piece.

That veteran is Stefon Diggs, the former Pro Bowl star whose arrival could reshape expectations around the Chiefs’ offense entering the 2026 season.

Diggs joins Kansas City after a surprising split with New England, where many believed he remained one of the offense’s most dependable veteran voices.

Last season, Diggs recorded 85 receptions, 1,013 receiving yards, and four touchdowns while serving as a trusted target for quarterback Drake Maye.

Although no longer in his absolute prime, Diggs still brings elite route awareness, timing, body control, and competitive fire to every offensive snap.

For Mahomes, that combination could become extremely valuable in late-game situations where trust, precision, and experience often decide playoff football outcomes.

Kansas City spent the offseason searching for another receiver capable of winning against disciplined coverage without needing constant schemed touches or perfect spacing.

Diggs fits that role because he understands leverage, coverage manipulation, third-down adjustments, and how to stay alive when plays break structure.

The Chiefs are not asking him to be the unstoppable superstar he once was during his peak seasons with Buffalo and Minnesota.

Instead, Kansas City needs him to become a reliable veteran separator who can punish defenses for overcommitting attention toward Travis Kelce.

Inside the building, the Chiefs reportedly view Diggs as more than just another receiver added to the offensive depth chart.

His presence brings accountability, urgency, and postseason experience to a locker room still chasing another chapter in the Patrick Mahomes dynasty.

The move also reflects Kansas City’s awareness that the AFC arms race has grown more dangerous entering the upcoming season.

With Buffalo, Baltimore, Cincinnati, and other contenders strengthening their rosters, the Chiefs understand standing still could quickly become costly.

New England’s decision to cut ties with Diggs may eventually be remembered as one of Kansas City’s biggest offseason opportunities.

For the Patriots, the move signals a potential shift toward younger weapons or a larger offensive reset around Drake Maye’s future.

For the Chiefs, however, it represents a calculated gamble on experience, chemistry, and a proven receiver still capable of changing meaningful games.

If Diggs can stay healthy and adapt quickly, Kansas City may have just handed Mahomes the veteran weapon needed for another Super Bowl run.
