The Baltimore Ravens made one of the most surprising moves of the offseason by landing an elite pass rusher after beating out strong competition from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Both teams were aggressively pursuing a dominant edge defender to strengthen their defensive fronts heading into the 2026 season.
Pittsburgh reportedly presented the veteran star with a larger contract offer worth roughly $118 million, hoping to add a game-changing force to the heart of its defense.
However, the standout defender ultimately decided that Baltimore offered the better football situation. The player at the center of the decision was none other than Trey Hendrickson, one of the most productive pass rushers of the past decade.
Hendrickson instead agreed to a multi-year deal worth $112 million with the Ravens, choosing team fit and long-term opportunity over the larger financial offer from Pittsburgh.
“I looked at a few places, including Pittsburgh,” Hendrickson said. “But this was the spot I wanted. From the beginning, the Ravens felt like the best fit for me.”
Baltimore entered the offseason with a clear need for more proven pass-rush production after a 2025 season in which the defense too often struggled to consistently disrupt opposing quarterbacks in critical moments.
That reality highlighted the need for a true difference-maker off the edge capable of collapsing pockets, finishing sacks, and shifting momentum with one play.
Even at this stage of his career, Hendrickson still brings relentless motor, polished technique, and proven finishing ability. After continuing to establish himself as one of the league’s premier sack artists, his résumé and disruptive presence made him one of the most coveted defensive players on the market.
By securing Hendrickson, the Ravens believe they have added a veteran weapon capable of stabilizing the pass rush and elevating their defense heading into the 2026 campaign.
